1)    BASIC TRAINING - Freshman Level

Basic training is a 75 hours of classroom instruction in general theory and practical application divided into the following areas.

  •        History of Professional Aesthetics & Skin Care

  •        Personal Hygiene and Public Health

  •        Professional Ethics & Image

  •        Understanding Disinfection & Sterilization: Chemicals, UV Light, & Autoclave

  •        Histology

  •        Introduction to Skin Analysis and Skin Care and Facial Treatments

2)      SCIENTIFIC CONCEPTS - Sophomore Level

Scientific Concepts is 150 hours of classroom instruction provided in the following subject areas.

  •      Cells, Anatomy, Physiology, Metabolism, and Body Systems including Lymphatic

  •       Bacteriology, Safety and Disease

  •      Physiology and Histology of the Skin

  •      Human Anatomy

  •      Chemistry – Understanding Chemicals and their use

 3)      PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES - Sophomore to Junior to Senior Level

 Practices and Procedures is 500 hours of instruction which is a combination of classroom instruction and clinical application, and provided in the following subject areas.  These courses are also available to professionals, prices range from $75 - $300.

  •      Non-Therapeutic Body Massage, Excluding the Scalp, Manipulations & Techniques

  •      Nutrition and Health of Skin

  •      Skin Analysis, Disorders, Assessment, Recognition using [New!]Microscopic Projection

  •      Cleansing the Skin: Procedures & Protocols

  •      Mask Therapy and Facial Treatments

  •      Facial Treatments without the Aid of Machines

  •      Basic Machines: Woods & Mag Lamps, Lucas Pulverisator, Vacuum, Galvanic, Desincrustation, High Frequency

  •      Advanced Machines: Gentle Electric Current (Micro Current) with Golgi Response

  •      Advanced Machines: Computerized Lymphatic Drainage

  •      Pre- & Post- Clinical Aesthetic Procedures: Lymphatic drainage and Peels

  •      Facial Treatments with the Aid of Machines: including use of ampoules and polarized products

  •      Hair Removal: Including Tweezer Method

  •      Waxing Techniques & Procedures

  •      Professional Make-up Techniques: Color Theory & Professional Application

  •      Ingredients, Cosmetic Chemistry Overview, &Product Knowledge

  •     Nutrition & Health

  •     Aromatherapy with Essential Oils & Herbs: including Detoxification Treatments

  •     Men's Grooming

  •     Spa Therapy: Including Dry Brushing, Sea Salt Glow, Body Wraps, Thalassotherapy, and Detoxification

  •     Body Paraffin

  •     Eyelash and Eyebrow  Tinting

  •     Practical Application of Alpha Hydroxy Peels

  •     [New!]Skin Lightening

  •        [New!]Photo therapy

  •     Foot Reflexology

  •     Soap Making & Merchandising

4)       BUSINESS PRACTICES

 Business Practices is 25 hours of classroom instruction and provided in the following areas.

  •       Resumes, Business Plans, Cash Flow, Menu Building, Marketing and Retail Sales

  •       Illinois Barber, Cosmetology, Aesthetics and Nail Technology Act and Rules Management

  •       OSHA Standards Relating to Chemical Use

 5)      INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

 Internship Program is an optional part of this curriculum.  An Internship Program will follow the following guidelines.

                                 A.    An Internship Program:

i)           May be substituted for 75 hours set forth in this subsection (a).

ii)                 May be part of the curriculum with an organized preplanned training program to allow a student to learn aesthetics under the direct supervision of a licensed cosmetologist or licensed aesthetician in a registered salon.

B.      A Student in the Program:

i)            May participate in an internship program only after completing 375 hours of training and have a minimum average grade of 80. 

ii)                  May not spend more than 75 hours in an internship program

iii)                May not be paid while participating in the Internship Program, as it is a part of the aesthetics curriculum of the school.

iv)                 May work a maximum of 8 hours a day and shall be required to spend 1 day a week at the school.

v)                   Shall be under the direct on-site supervision of a licensed cosmetologist or licensed aesthetician.

* Curriculum may vary.  The University of Aesthetics course includes all material required by the IL state Cosmetology Act and includes additional material on a class by class basis.  We reserve the right to withdraw, add, exchange, alter, shorten, and lengthen non-required courses.
