your career, your school...FAQ

Choosing a school is your first step.  Consider the following 7 thoughts from us.

  1. Where do you want to practice?  Each state has the right to regulate aestheticians.  Most states control this through a Department of Professional Regulation.  If you call your Secretary of State's office, you will probably get direction to the proper office.
  2. Do all states recognize a license?  Some states, believe it or not, do not even have a license.  This is becoming less common.  If you live in one of these states, please get a license from another state!
  3. Can I come to your school and work outside of Illinois?  Yes.  Most states require less than Illinois.  Our program is 750 hours and most states are less than 600 hours.  Therefore, you should exceed your state's requirements.  However, we strongly advise you to do your own research before making any decisions.  Contact your state and discuss your plans.
  4. What should I look for in a school?  The list here is long.  Look for a school that "looks right."  If the school does not look professional, you probably won't get much of an education.  Look for schools that have facilities that are equal to their enrollment.  Ask about the number of enrollees and the number of aesthetic tables/sets of equipment.  If the ratio is 5 enrollees to 1 set of equipment, it probably is not adequate.  Look for ratios of less than 2 people per set of equipment.
  5. Ask about how the program is designed.  If the answer is "all programs are alike to meet the minimum state requirements" that is what you will get-the minimum.  All programs are not alike.  If your friend gave you 3 golf lessons and Tiger Woods gave you 3 golf lessons, would you get the same lesson?  Both would be a beginner's first 3 lessons, yet one focuses 100% of his time on golf.  We are all about skin.  We are 100% focused.
  6. Caution!  When you ask about programs, do the math.  If someone says you can take 600 hours in 2 months, do the math.  That would be 600 hours in 8 weeks or 75 hours per week.  Not likely.
  7. Look for programs that include in-depth hands-on training in areas like AHA's, Body Wraps, Epidermabrasion, Electrotherapy,  and other advanced areas.  This kind of training will prepare you to exceed the expectations of your next employer-your client!
